Type A. Bi-planar
Characteristics
- Leaflets attach at two main angles.
- Leaves are not opposite each other on the rachis and can be somewhat random.
- Tip of rachis ends in one terminal leaf.
Pinnate Bi-Planar
The leaves attach to the rachis at two main angles.
Phoenix reclinata
Ceroxylon vogelianum
Similar Genera: Includes many of the Phoenix genus, Allagoptera, some Ceroxylon
Type B. Plumose
Characteristics
- Leaves attach to the rachis at many angles (multi planar).
- The leaflets are lax.
Pinnate Plumose
Leaves attach to the rachis at many angles and the leaflets are lax.
Syagrus romanzoffiana
Similar Genera:
Syagrus coronata;
Syagrus romanzoffiana X coronata (Silver Queen).
Also, some mature species of Allagoptera have a distinctly plumose character, but the leaves are more clustered.
